About the printmaker and printmaking
Singapore relief printmaker okaydoubleyou creating a relief print

Hello, I'm OKW (okaydoubleyou) and I'm a recovering Type A(nxious) lawyer & printmaker based in Singapore. I love creating, working and making with my hands. My original relief prints are handmade in Singapore, and are inspired by my world, the everyday, and the joys of slow living. I take pride in handmaking each print with intention and with thought - from the design, to the carving, to the printing.

My printmaking journey

I embarked on my relief printmaking journey in 2019 at a half-day workshop. I wasn't particularly good (no hidden talents unfortunately), but I found it very meditative, and really enjoyed the handmade process. I bought all the materials (paper, ink, tools etc.), fully intending to pursue this hobby with a vengeance.

Plot twist - life (and work) got in the way, and I never got into the momentum of doing it regularly, but I never forgot the joy of making and creating and I tried to do it whenever I had a stretch of free time. The house started to fill up with prints and I used to bequeath unsolicited extras to hapless friends to make room (and hopefully have my art find a way to a corner of their walls).

In Oct 2022, I left for London with my husband for a 9 month stint as he pursued further studies. With newfound time on my hands, I knew I was going to revive my printmaking pursuits in the +44, and I really wanted to push myself out of my comfort zone to experiment with different techniques, mediums, subject matter. I'm now back in Singapore, but I continue to make prints as a way of finding an analogue corner in a digital world.
